The Remington Outdoors Foundation recently donated a large amount of ammunition and firearms to the Great Lakes Outdoors Foundation. Director Carol Bambery worked with Remington Outdoors to facilitate the donation and asked for 10 Remington 870 shotguns. When the guns came in we received five Youth 870 20 gauge shotguns and five 870 12 gauge shotguns. In addition without asking, Remington Outdoors Foundation also donated 100 cases of Shotgun ammo. The MSRP value of the firearms is $4,365 and the ammo value is $11,900.
GLOF will use these shotguns and ammo to train youth and women in the shotgun sports. Our first event is the start of many Michigan DNR Becoming an Outdoor Woman (BOW) classes held at the Caledonia Sportsman’s Club. The event was held last night, and we took 3 ladies who had never held or fired a shotgun and they enjoyed a night of Shotgun Shooting, Safety, Cleaning, and Trap Shooting. In they end they were all breaking clays and having a great time. It appears that we have some new shotgun shooters!
Next is youth classes, and we have already scheduled a Youth Pheasant Hunt for early October at the Haymarsh Hunt Club north of Grand Rapids. We will be taking 10 youths on a mentored Pheasant Hunt with a guide and dog. We are hoping to introduce youngsters to the Sport of Upland Bird Hunting and the Shotgun Sports. Without the generous donation of firearms and ammo from Remington Outdoors we would never be able to reach this many people and introduce them to the Shotgun Sports and Upland Bird Hunting. We appreciate the donation and thank Paige Russell for all her hard work in ensuring that the firearms and ammo arrived on time and we received what we needed for this program.
